Record Breaking Attempts

When we started creating Word Search 10K we had no idea there was an official Guinness world record for the World’s Largest Word Search. We saw AppyNation announce their World’s Biggest Wordsearch Puzzle over on Kickstarter and noticed that they mentioned a record so we had to go and investigate.

At the time, the record was held by Rackspace who covered a huge 19x18foot wall with a word search containing almost 4000 words!

Discovering this was a real world record, we did a little bit of research and discovered that after 3 years of no interest, this year there are multiple people attempting to create something larger!

First up, the current record holder – Mel Crow. Mel had a Kickstarter campaign for his word search which contains 5,500 words across 204 columns and 250 rows totaling 51,000 letters! Impressive Image may be NSFW.

His record was officially confirmed in March and it’s his name you’ll currently see on Guinness’ web site.

Next up is AppyNation whose Kickstater project didn’t go so well. Their puzzle is a 250×250 grid containing over 5,750 words and despite not making their goal, they have just released the game for mobile. No word from them yet as to when there will be a public event to show off the puzzle and submit it to Guinness.

Then there was another Kickstarter campaign by Andrew Nicholls in March. He was trying to create the hardest word search puzzle, with 6,500 words hiding in a grid of 56,000 letters. Another failed campaign and no word from him as to how it’s going either.

Then, of course, there’s us! Image may be NSFW.

Apparently we’re the only ones who didn’t feel a need for crowd funding!  With our grid of 300×300 letters and 10,000 words we clearly have the largest puzzle – we just need to prove it! Image may be NSFW.

We will have details of our public unveiling event up shortly and then we’ll be posting off all the evidence Guinness requires! Image may be NSFW.
